It is an exciting time to join One Housing Group, especially in its fast-paced communications team.
One Housing is a regulated housing association and is one of the largest providers of supported housing in London and the South East. We manage over 16,000 homes in over 26 different London boroughs and across several Home Counties. We are a social landlord to over 30,000 residents – and support over 11,000 residents to live independently. We are delighted to join g15 and play our full part in helping to address the housing crisis in London.
As our strategic external affairs manager you will be responsible for delivering and launching new efforts to engage with our key stakeholders.
You will be joining a highly motivated lean communications team, as we grow to deliver a full range of strategic communications and engagement activities, externally at a local, regional and national level.
In response to the housing crisis, we have written a new corporate plan that focuses on how we, as an organisation, will address the lack of affordable housing, while continuing to be a long-term partner in the neighbours where we work. We have committed to building over 5,000 new affordable homes and have put our social purpose at the heart of everything we do.
Our new vision is that we create places for people to call home and support them to live well. Our external communications team will be responsible for communicating our new vision to our external stakeholders.
We are looking for a passionate external relations/ affairs specialist with experience working with politicians, media and other corporate stakeholders. We are looking for someone with a can-do attitude who can spot opportunities to influence stakeholders or opportunities to place stories with local or national media. You should have experience in reactive as well as proactive media, including issuing statements, press releases and dealing with complex and sensitive issues.
You must also have strong written and verbal communication skills. You will be able to translate complex policy and technical language into plain English and help maximise public and political understanding of our work.
Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications and line management responsibility of the External Relations Officer, this is a key post within a dynamic, but small communications team and although we work closely, our internal communications and employee engagement sits outside of this team.
In order to apply for this role, you will have the following experience:
• At least five years professional experience in any or a combination of the following fields: journalism, press officer, parliament or public affairs.
• Experience of developing communications strategies and plans.
• Experience working with or within UK government or parliament.
Experience of drafting briefings, consultation responses and drafting corporate responses in relation to government announcements.
• Experience working with or within UK media.
• Exceptional written English, suitable for a range of external audiences.
