This exciting and challenging new role is situated within our new purpose built 24hr Homelessness and complex needs service opening soon in Bedford.  You will be working with individuals and their families to prevent homelessness and improve long-term positive outcomes.  This is an excellent opportunity to get involved at grass roots level and to make your mark on this exciting new service.

As a Specialist Support Officer, you will ideally have experience of supporting vulnerable adults and young people with housing related support needs including alcohol/drug misuse, mental health issues and anti-social behaviour (ASB).

You will provide psychological insight into the daily lives of customers.  You will do this in three different levels:

Working with customers: Providing 121 psychologically informed support and facilitating in house group work providing drug and alcohol support to customers

Working with the team: providing training to the team and facilitating case management meetings using psychological informed formulations and methodology.

Working with the wider context:

Internally: Providing training and delivering reflective practice across the mental health division

Externally: Close liaison with stakeholders and services, informing service level agreements with key mental health partners

To join us as a Specialist Support Officer, you will ideally have:

  • Relevant qualifications that enable you to provide psychologically informed practice or drug and alcohol specialist support
  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults and the understanding of safeguarding practices
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of up to date legislation and government frameworks relevant to working with customers with Mental Health challenges
  • The ability to undertake assessments and contribute to effective team working
  • The respect for others and personal ambition it takes to succeed
  • IT skills including use of Microsoft packages such as Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent team work skills, demonstrating both collaboration and respect with peers and customers
